History of Goro Naya

Goro Naya is a veteran seiyu who was born in Hakodate. His younger brother is seiyu Rokuro Naya. He is most known for the roles of Koichi Zenigata (Lupin III), Juzo Okita (Space Battleship Yamato), and Shocker Great Leader. Goro Naya has become an icon among fans of the Kamen Rider series and is seen as a legend by many fans of the series.

Naya started out in Lupin III early on, but not as Zenigata. He actually played Goemon Ishikawa in the Cinemascope version of the show pilot. Naya has recently been diagnosed with throat cancer; thus, his voice is in bad shape. This has also led to Zenigata’s role in the recent TV specials being slightly reduced.

In the Kamen Rider series, it was revealed that up until Kamen Rider ZX (pronounced ‘Zee Cross’), all the organizations the Riders had fought were led by the original Shocker’s Great Leader. Naya himself voiced most if not all of this character’s appearances. He also voiced Grand Lord Crisis in Kamen Rider Black RX, who some fans speculate is the Great Leader as well.
